February Fruit

IMG_6013IMG_5994IMG_5986IMG_5988IMG_5969IMG_5985IMG_5979

Plentiful fruit- plums and apples in the orchard now that it is netted- only the chickens can eat the fruit that falls! The two fig trees- in hidden valley and at the forgotten spring are yielding so many that even the native birds leave us buckets of fruit!

Roxy and Merlin are the proud parents of 8 puppies- born on the first day of February and their eyes are only just beginning to open. With 7 boys and 1 girl, the peaceful sleeping and drinking tummies full of milk may just change and they will start to move about and play!

AI time for the girls

Eating the the lemons was OK but then we enthusiastically lined up for the ‘bull’! He looked good in the catalogue. The calves will be due on July 30, 2016! You can also follow us on facebook at pricklefarm.

Cows and Spring

IMG_5531 IMG_5557IMG_5535 IMG_5563 We are adding some Wagyu genetics  into our pure black angus herd- so they will be grass and olive foliage fed organic beef. Soon virtual walks, with just the sounds and sights of nature around the property in different seasons will be available to purchase (a trial video features a brown snake quickly exiting the path in front of me and the dogs!).

Winter is here and now Spring!

We know winter is truly here when the visibility is reduced to mere metres, and the waterfall is gushing over..Spring is blossoms and storms and burning heaps…

Coming soon…A GoPro view of a 45 minute Spring walk around parts of the property. We will produce a video for each season and with different walking circuits- so on your walking machine when it is miserable outside- feel like you are really going for an adventurous walk on a bright sunny day and look around Prickle farm!

Trees

IMG_5085IMG_1665IMG_4305IMG_1276

And now for my real passion- trees! This old redgum was once smothered with feral olives but is now re-shooting- it must be hundreds of years old and is on ‘redgum rise’!!! There are manna gums in the valleys and SA bluegums up the slopes as well as ‘ghost’ stringybark trees high on the hillside above our house. Around the house are every possible species of tree- especially those that flower or fruit!
