Ramblings from Prickle- or is that now animal Farm!
Our ’20 year project’. Our 1860 local stone farm cottage is warm and comfortable and now extended to embrace the field, city and ocean views, we have 6 paddocks fenced with water and accessible by tracks, but feral olive removal is ongoing and trial new tree plantings have to be well-protected from the cows! We now have bred a good organic Angus herd, have a netted orchard and make jams and jellies, our chickens lay huge eggs, our border collies produce beautiful tri-colour, gold and black and white pups, sometimes we pick olives (a challenge on the steep hillsides!), blackberries, figs, plums and apples from remnant trees on the valley floors, we have learnt to tap a spring for its’ pure water (there are many!), and we have our metal detector for the old mines but haven’t found any gold yet. One day we will have walking tracks around our special places- ghost tree and lush paddocks, nut tree, hidden valley, small garden and far valleys, lost garden crevasse, blackberry brook, grandfather olive and sapling knolls, broad swamp, figtree flat, divorce dam, simon’s track to nowhere, the washing track, giant redgum rise, kangaroo grass hillside and goats cliff, woolly teatree waterfall….and so the project continues……
